Doha: Abdullah Al Khelaifi emerged victorious in the fourth round of the Qatar Touring Car Championship at the Losail International Circuit.
Al Khelaifi was crowned the winner after leading the standings with 29 points. He won the first race and finished second in the second, while Ahmed Al Asiri came in second with 22 points after finishing second in the first and fourth in the second race. Abdullah Al Abbasi finished third with 18 points after being fifth in the first race and third in the second race.
The two races of the fourth round witnessed absorbing contests. In the first race, which consisted of 10 laps for a distance of 53.8 km, Al Khelaifi won the title after taking the first place with a time of 24:37.561 minutes, 2.114 seconds ahead of his closest competitor Ahmed Al Asiri who finished second with a time of 24:39.675 minutes.
Ahmed Al Abbasi was ranked third with a time of 24:41.545 minutes, while driver Ahmed Shaheen Al Mohannadi came in fourth with a time of 24:43.038 minutes. Abdullah Al Abbasi was fifth with a time of 25:22.094 minutes.
In the second race of 10 laps, Ghanem Al Maadheed won the title after taking the first place, recording a time of 24:05.726 minutes, 0.532 seconds ahead of his closest competitor Abdullah Al Khelaifi, who clocked 24:06.258 minutes.
Abdullah Al Abbasi came in third place with a time of 24:27.054 minutes, while Ahmed Al Asiri was fourth (24:29.842) and Nasser Al Ahbabi fifth in 24:35.288 minutes.
By the end of the fourth round of races, Al Khelaifi raised his overall score to 102 points at the top of the general standings, 35 points ahead of his nearest competitor, Al Maadheed, who has 67 points, while Ahmed Shaheen Al Mohannadi is third with 64 points, Ibrahim Al Abdulghani fourth with 47 points and Ibrahim Al Mannai fifth with 45 points.
Drivers Abdullah Al Abbasi (42 points), Ahmed Al Abbasi (38 points), Hamad Al Asam (37 points), Ahmed Al Asiri (34 points), and Jabr Al Sulaiti (23 points) occupy the positions from the sixth to the tenth respectively.
Al Khelaifi expressed happiness at winning the fourth round title and being very close to winning the championship moving far ahead in the general standings.
Al Khelaifi said that the competition was very strong, especially in the second race of the round which witnessed a great competition between him and Ghanem Al Maadheed until the last.
Al Maadheed said that since the beginning of the championship, he has encountered misfortune as he suffers a malfunction in the first race and then wins the second race, noting that these breakdowns kept him from competing for the title.
