4 ANDREA DOVIZIOSO WITHU YAMAHA RNF MOTOGP TEAM - Eight podiums in Qatar: 1x125cc (2004), 2x250cc (2005, 2016), 5xMotoGP™ (2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019). - Dovizioso has competed 12 times in MotoGP™ at Lusail and on every occasion, he has finished in the top seven. - He qualified on pole at Lusail in 2015. - He was the first Ducati rider across the line for the last six years in Qatar. - In 2019, he beat M. Marquez at the very last corner for the second time in a row in Qatar to win the race. 5 JOHANN ZARCO PRAMAC RACING - In 2017, Zarco raced for the first time in MotoGP™; he led the first six laps from fourth on the grid and set the fastest lap before crashing out of the race. - In 2018, he qualified on pole position, setting a new lap record at the time. He led 16 laps of the race before dropping down to eighth after struggling with the front. - In 2019, he qualified 21st on what was his first race with KTM (following a crash at Turn 2 in Q1), and finished 15th, 15.093 after winner Dovizioso. It was the closest top 15 of all-time in a full-length premier class GP race at the time. - Last year, he finished on the podium twice at Lusail, both times in second. At the Doha GP, he fought with his teammate Jorge Martin to finish second behind Fabio Quartararo for the first French 1-2 in the premier class. 10 LUCA MARINI MOONEY VR46 RACING TEAM - Marini has raced in Qatar for the last five years in Moto2™ with a best result of sixth in 2017, equalling his best result at that time in the class. - In 2020, he qualified second (with the exact same time as polesitter Joe Roberts), led the race for 13 laps before struggling with the front and dropping down to 13th . He crashed on the final lap following contact with Jake Dixon. - 2021 was Marini’s first race on a MotoGP™ bike in Qatar; he qualified 18th and failed to score any points, finishing 16th. At the Doha GP, he qualified 13th but dropped down to 18th after struggling with the front after ten laps. 12 MAVERICK VINALES APRILIA RACING - In 2014, Viñales qualified in 14th and finished fourth in his first race in Moto2™. - 2015 was his first race in MotoGP™, picking up points in 14th position after a last-lap battle with Barbera and Bradl. - In 2017, Viñales became the second-youngest rider of all time after Mike Hailwood (Norton & MV Agusta) to have won in the premier class on bikes from two different manufacturers. - In 2018, after a bad start, he dropped down to 15th, but eventually finished in sixth. - In 2019, he took his seventh premier class pole but dropped down to eighth in the early stages and finished seventh. - Last year at the Qatar GP, he qualified third behind his teammate Fabio Quartararo, dropped down to sixth on the opening lap, but eventually went on to win the race for his most recent victory and last with Yamaha. - At the Doha GP, he also started third, but dropped to 11th on the second lap; he worked his way through to fifth. 20 FABIO QUARTARARO MONSTER ENERGY YAMAHA MOTOGP - In 2015, Quartararo made his GP debut at 15 years and 343 days old, becoming the youngest rider to compete in Moto3™ at that time. He finished seventh after qualifying in sixth. - In 2016, he finished 13th after qualifying on the front row – his only front row of that season. - He made his Moto2™ debut in Qatar in 2017 and finished seventh and in 2018, he failed to score and finished 20th . - 2019 was Quartararo’s first race on a MotoGP™ bike in Qatar; he qualified as the highest-placed rookie in fifth but stalled on the grid and had to start from pitlane. He eventually finished the race in 16th place. - Last year at the Qatar GP, he qualified second. He dropped down to fifth on the opening lap but managed to move up to third before struggling with the rear. He eventually finished fifth. - At the Doha GP last year, he qualified fifth and then won, which is the only time in his eight premier class wins so far he has won after qualifying off the front row. He dropped down to ninth early on but worked his way through to victory. He made a bad start and dropped down to 13th. He made his way through the field but on the soft rear tyre he eventually finished 11th. - Last year at the Qatar GP, he qualified seventh, but had an issue with his bike on the grid. He decided to start but dropped down to 21st in the early stages of the race. He managed to cross the line in 18th . - At the 2021 Qatar GP, he qualified 10th and finished the race in 12th, using his tyre too early. 23 ENEA BASTIANINI GRESINI RACING MOTOGP - Bastianini raced in Qatar from 2014 to 2020 in Moto3™ and Moto2™, and finishing on the podium twice: second in 2015 (Moto3™) and third in 2020 in Moto2™ on his way to clinching the title. - 2021 was Bastianini’s first race on a MotoGP™ bike at the Qatar GP. He missed out on Q2 by 0.005s and qualified 13th . He dropped down to 19th on the opening lap, but eventually finished 10th as top rookie. - At the Doha GP, he started from 19th but, again, worked his way through the field to cross the line in 11th . 25 RAUL FERNANDEZ TECH3 KTM FACTORY RACING - Fernandez has competed in Qatar four times in the lower classes, twice in both Moto3™ and Moto2™, with a best result of third last year at the Doha GP in Moto2™, his maiden podium on what was his second race in the class. - At the Qatar GP last year, he qualified in second for his debut in Moto2™, he also qualified second in Moto3™ in 2020. - 2022 will be Fernandez’ first race on a MotoGP™ bike in Qatar. 30 TAKAAKI NAKAGAMI LCR HONDA IDEMITSU - Nakagami has competed eight times in Qatar in the lower classes between 2008 and 2017. - In 2014 in Moto2™, he crossed the line second from third on the grid but was later DSQ’d for a technical infringement. - 2018 was his first race in MotoGP™, finishing 17th. - In 2019, he qualified ninth after passing through Q1, his best qualifying in MotoGP™ at that time, and finished in ninth. - Last year at the Qatar GP, he qualified 11th after passing through Q1, but crashed out of the race on Lap 7 at Turn 9. - At the 2021 Doha GP, he qualified 16th as the last Honda and finished 17th . 33 BRAD BINDER RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING - Binder competed in Qatar in the lower classes for eight years up to 2019, with a best result of second in 2016 in Moto3™. - He raced three times in Qatar in Moto2™ with a best result of sixth in 2018. - In 2019, he qualified eighth as the only non-Kalex in the top 10 and finished 12th as the highest-placed KTM rider. - 2021 was Binder’s first races on a MotoGP™ bike in Qatar; at the Qatar GP, he qualified 19th, which was his worst qualifying result at that time, and finished 14th . - At the 2021 Doha GP, he qualified 18th, but made his way through the field to cross the line in eighth as highest-placed KTM rider. This is the only top 10 finish for KTM at Lusail. 36 JOAN MIR TEAM SUZUKI ECSTAR - Qatar 2016 was Mir’s second race in Moto3™; he finished 12th after qualifying 10th. - In 2017, he won the Moto3™ race from sixth on the grid on his way to clinching the title. - 2018 was Mir’s debut in Moto2™; he qualified 24th but worked his way through the field to finish 11th. - In 2019, he raced in Qatar for the first time in MotoGP™; he started from 10th (but qualified in 11th) and moved up to second on Lap 2 before dropping down to finish eighth as the top rookie. - At the 2021 Qatar GP, he qualified 10th and finished fourth, overtaken by the Ducatis of Zarco and Bagnaia at the line. - At the Doha GP last year, he went through Q1 and qualified ninth. He fought with Jack Miller among others during the race and nearly collided with him at Turn 10 (with 10 laps to go), eventually finishing seventh. He moved up to third on Lap 2 but dropped down and eventually finished 10th, struggling to overtake the Ducati riders. 42 ALEX RINS TEAM SUZUKI ECSTAR - Rins’ only podium in Qatar is third in Moto3™ in 2013. He qualified on pole for Moto3™ in 2014 and went on to finish fifth. - In 2016, he finished eighth in Moto2™ after a being given a penalty for a jump-start. - 2017 was Rins’ race debut in MotoGP™; he started from 18th and finished ninth as the top rookie, ahead of Jonas Folger. - In 2018, he crashed out on Lap 13 while sitting in sixth. - In 2019, he qualified 10th after crashing in FP3 and FP4; he fought for the lead with M. Marquez, Dovizioso and Crutchlow. - Last year at the Qatar GP, he started from ninth and finished sixth as the second Suzuki - At the 2021 Doha GP, he qualified eighth and finished fourth as the top Suzuki, equalling his best result in MotoGP™ at Lusail from 2019. 43 JACK MILLER DUCATI LENOVO TEAM - Miller finished but failed to score any points in the Moto3™ race in both 2012 and 2013. - In 2014, Miller took his first ever Grand Prix victory in the Moto3™ race in Qatar. - In 2015, he made his debut in MotoGP™ but crashed out on the final lap. - In 2016, Miller picked up two points in Qatar in 14th whilst suffering from an ankle injury picked up in preseason testing. - In 2019, he qualified fourth as top Independent but had a problem with his seat on Lap 2 and retired from 11th on Lap 13. - Last year at the Qatar GP, he crashed in FP1 and FP3, but qualified fifth. He moved up to third in the early stages of the race before dropping to ninth, struggling with his rear tyre at the middle of the race. -At the Doha GP, he qualified fourth, fought throughout the race and had contact with Mir. He eventually finished ninth. 44 POL ESPARGARO REPSOL HONDA TEAM - Espargaro finished third in Moto2™ in 2012 – his first podium finish at the Lusail circuit. - In 2013, he qualified on pole in Moto2™, won the race and set the fastest lap. - In 2014, he retired from his debut race in MotoGP™ in Qatar with mechanical problems with five laps to go. - 2017 in Qatar was Pol’s debut with KTM. He crossed the line in 16th, just ahead of his teammate Bradley Smith. - In 2018, he retired from the race with an electrical problem while sitting in 16th. - In 2019, he qualified in 16th and finished the race in 12th as the highest-placed KTM rider. - Last year, he made his debut with Honda. He crashed twice on Friday, qualified 12th , but finished eighth as top Honda. - At the 2021 Doha GP, he started from 15th and crossed the line in 13th place, again as the top Honda rider. At the Qatar GP, he qualified 16th but crashed out from P14 on Lap 14 at Turn 5. At the Doha GP, he qualified 14th and crashed out from P16 on Lap 13 at Turn 14. 87 REMY GARDNER TECH3 KTM FACTORY RACING - Gardner has competed seven times in Qatar in the lower classes and finished twice on the podium last year in Moto2™, finishing both in second on his way to clinching the title. - 2022 will be Gardner’s debut in the premier class, almost 30 years after his father and MotoGP™ Legend Wayne made his final GP appearance in the class. 88 MIGUEL OLIVEIRA RED BULL KTM FACTORY RACING - In 2011, Oliveira made his GP debut in Qatar in 125cc, crossing the line in 10th. - From 2012 to 2015, he competed in Moto3™ in Qatar, with a best result of fourth in 2014. - 2016 was Oliveira’s debut in Moto2™; he finished 11th after qualifying in 21st. - In 2017, he finished fourth and in 2018 he finished fifth as the top KTM rider ahead of his teammate Brad Binder. - 2019 was Oliveira’s first race on a MotoGP™ bike in Qatar; he qualified in 17th but stalled on the grid before the Warm Up lap and had to start from the back. He moved up to 13th before finishing the race in 17th. - At the 2021 Qatar GP, he qualified 15th as top KTM and finished 13h as the top KTM. - At the Doha GP, he made a great start from 12th to move up to third but had a dashboard problem and eventually finished 15th , 8.928 seconds after winner Quartararo. He became the fourth rider to stand on the podium on his second (or better) MotoGP™ race along with Marc Marquez (third in his first race in 2013), Jorge Lorenzo (second in his first race in 2008) and Dani Pedrosa (second in his first race in 2006). - The 2021 Qatar GP was Martin’s first race on a MotoGP™ bike; he qualified 14th and made an incredible start to move up to fourth at the first corner. He eventually finished the race in 15th . - At the 2021 Doha GP, he qualified on pole, becoming the first rookie to qualify on pole in his second MotoGP™ race since Marc Marquez in Austin in 2013. 93 MARC MARQUEZ REPSOL HONDA TEAM - Marquez crashed out of the 125cc race in Qatar in 2009, and in 2010, he qualified on pole and finished third. - On his debut in Moto2™ in 2011, he crashed on Lap 5 & in 2012 he won on his way to taking the world title. - He made his MotoGP™ debut in 2013 in Qatar; he finished the race in third. The following year he won from pole position. - In 2015, Marquez qualified third but ran wide at the first corner and rejoined in last position – he went on to finish fifth. - In 2016, he qualified second and finished third. - In 2017, he started from the front row of the grid in third and finished the race in fourth. - In 2018, he both qualified and finished the race in second. - In 2019, he qualified third and crossed the line in second after being beaten by Dovizioso at the very last corner of the race for the second successive time in Qatar. - Marquez missed both races held in Lusail last year due to an arm injury sustained at the 2020 Spanish GP.
